Welcome to the New Space

If this is your first time meeting me, hi, I’m Sarah!

I’m portrait photographer in the Iowa City/Coralville/North Liberty area. I like taking pictures of people because people are interesting! I would love to shoot weddings someday as I already work in the wedding industry :) Other than being a photographer, I’m a small group leader for my college ministry and also a grad student! I’m currently working towards my M.S. in Strategic Brand Communication — it’s a mouthful. I hope to work in brand strategy for local businesses, but as I’ve learned in the past, we’ll see where God takes me! I love love love traveling and exploring new places. Internationally, the top five places I’d like to visit are Greece, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, and Italy. Within the U.S., I’d like to visit Lake Tahoe, Hawaii, Miami, New Orleans, and Alaska!

So why the new space?

I used to do both photography and videography under Sarah K. Photo+Film. But some things happened.

I realized I was stretching myself thin trying to do both videography and photography. Serving clients is the basis of my business, but I wasn’t serving my clients well because I was juggling two different crafts that had their own set of required skills. On top of that, I just had a very busy fall season and it wore me down a lot (a story for another day). I decided I had to stick to one. For my clients and for myself, I needed to restart; I wanted to focus on my personal brand and hone in on one craft. It was difficult choosing which craft to stick to, photography or videography. I loved both. It’s like asking a parent who their favorite child is and their answer is, “I don’t have a favorite” or “I love them all equally.” Of course, we all know there is a favorite, at least on a subconscious level ;) I pondered for quite some time. In fact, I took a few months off to think about it.

The result of all the internal arguments is… photography!

I chose photography because videography was something I enjoyed doing for myself and it wasn’t something that I thought I could serve my clients well in. Photography, on the other hand, I knew I could serve with a cheerful heart and create an incredible experience for my clients in the process. It also challenges me in a way that pushes me outside my comfort zone. Videography sometimes pushed me to get outside my comfort zone, but it also enabled me to stay in it. As much as I love doing video, videography challenged me in different ways, but it wasn’t the ones that helped me to grow as a person and in my relationships with people.

So here we are! Sarah Kang Photography is born!

There are so many exciting adventures and growth that’s going to happen with this and I’m excited to share it with you! And if you don’t want to hear it, well, why are you here ☺

Cheers to a new season in life! 🥂
